ELONEX AND PHILIPS SIGN PATENT AGREEMENT
LONDON, England and Amsterdam, The Netherlands, October 29, 1999 — London-based PC manufacturer ELONEX PLC and PHILIPS CONSUMER ELECTRONICS BV announced today that they have reached agreement concerning the licensing of Elonex’s display power management technology. Power management systems allow personal computer display monitors to consume less power after user-defined or default idle periods.
Philips obtains a license under all of Elonex’s display power management patents worldwide. These patents comprise more than twenty independent claims directed to the power management of peripheral devices including display monitors; and enable PC systems to be energy efficient.
“Philips recognises the importance of environmental care and has implemented advanced technologies in green product lines designed to consume less power,” says Mike Waters, Business Development Manager Philips PC Peripherals. “Philips has already won the ‘Gold Medal Award for International Environmental Achievement’ and is fully committed to further developments in this area. Our agreement with Elonex is one of the steps to achieve this.”
Philips is the largest global monitor maker to date to license Elonex’s technology. Elonex has previously licensed Hitachi, Hewlett-Packard and Nokia Display Products. Elonex and Philips recognise the importance of reducing power consumption in office equipment. Elonex envisages that other companies will follow in licensing Elonex’s power management technology.
Mike Waters and Elonex’s Commercial Director Michael Spiro joined in saying that they view the agreement as a positive outcome for both businesses.
